Kevin Carter was part of tightly knit band of white South African photojournalists known as "The Bang Bang Club" - four friends who found their calling in teh war-revange black township, where apartheid was coming to a violent close. They were adrenaline junkies on a courageous mission: to get the picture. At any cost. [after: http://www.kevincarterfilm.com/index.html]

Kevin Carter commited suicide, because he couldn't magage with war-trauma-memories. When he was taking pictures, he had to "think visually". He was awarded with Pulitzer Prize in 1994. More about "The Life and Death of Kevin Carter" you can read here:

The picture taken by Carter made me feel so horrible and so completely sad and helpless. Actually it made me feel sick. I jugde the way it has been said Carter acted after taking the picture (not helping the small child). As a mother and a human being I cannot understand how he was able to leave the child to suffer. The picture just brings tears to my eyes even when I only think about it.
