Risky piece of photography in New York: the french photographer Erica Simone made pictures of herself, publically, while being stark naked. In a metro full of strangers she pretends to be a beggar. To Simone photography has become a passion. The idea that people at that very place in New York were more concerned about their latest purchases than being worried about a homeless person they ran into, intrigued her. She wanted to see what would happen if someone just put off his/her clothes. The result of her experiences can be seen in an exhibition in New York starting at april 14.

When I read your thread I thought always this proviking with the naked body, it is not original anymore. When I saw the pictures I was happy surprised by the beautiful peaceful pictures. It looks like it is normal to do daily activities naked. It is so natural. That is a really strong point of the pictures. But what is it in the picture that makes it so natural? Is it the naked body or is it the setting or the framing? I don't have an answer yet on it.
Nudity is shocking and provocative; causing us to re-evaluate out morality, thoughts and chastity. For this reason it is a great way to bring attention to certain matter.
Is it art then? Hmm.. from my point of view human body already is one beautiful piece of art; photographing it being observing the reactions it evokes.
You can find his photographs here: http://www.archive.worldpressphoto.org/search/layout/result/indeling/detailwpp/form/wpp/start/38/q/ishoofdafbeelding/true/trefwoord/year/2009?id=wpp%3Acol1%3Adat10256
On the other hand, especially according Simone's photographs, I have thinking what kind of activity it is? Is it art? Is it social protest? Or is it a kind of happening? What do you think about it?
